Justification of the idea
The bicycle has always been a symbol of a healthy lifestyle, sport and active citizenship of the younger generation, becoming more popular vehicle every day. Since the late 20th century, in the East, bicycles have been an indispensable means of transport. A bicycle boom hit Europe as well: German, British, Belgians, Swedish, Finnish…
Almost every Belarusian family has a bicycle, and some have several. It’s hard to find a man in our small Hlusk today who doesn’t know how to ride a bike: from kindergarten to 90-year-old. Schoolchildren are among the majority of cyclists.
State Educational Institution «School №2, Hlusk» is located in the outskirts of the urban settlement. The park covers the area of 3ha in the area opposite the school. The park was laid down by school graduates in the spring of 1964. Nowadays it is of the popular recreation areas among the residents and guests of Hlusk.
Traditionally, the bicycle occupies an important place in nearly 100 years of school history. Teachers and pupils had not only come to school on bicycles, but also had organized bicycle races on the memorable places of war, as well as bicycle guides in order to learn more about motherland, they also had participated in famous cycling trips to Crimea and Carpathians.
Graduate of 1998, Alexander Buyevsky, famous for his bike travels around all the former USSR (Crimea, Caucasus, Carpathians, Pamir, Karelia, Komi, etc.), is widely known for his hobby among the cycling lovers. For the pupils of our school Alexander is an example of persistent, purposeful young man, who dedicated his life to the amateur sports.
In 2020/2021 academic year there are 305 children at school from Hlusk and suburb areas: villages Podzampa, Khvastovichi, Dostizhenie, Brody, Vesnovo, Karnitsa, Turino, Berezovka, Balashevichi, Zelenkovichi, Zuborevichi, Dokol’. The transportation is organized for the children from rural areas.
Nowadays there is a special attitude towards bicycles at our school. In spring-autumn period the vital part of schoolchildren and school workers come to school on bicycles. Due to the increasing popularity of this transport, it’s appeared, that we have too small bicycle parking near the school and now it is not enough for every bicycle. Moreover, there is an idea of creating safe walking and cycling space for our schoolchildren, since many parents don’t allow their kids to go to school by bicycle, because they find it dangerous. Above all, kids don’t possess sufficient skills of riding a bicycle, while using such transport requires attention to the rules and safety of the road and literate cycling.
Description of the project.
Aims and tasks of the project:
1. Realization of the state policy in the sphere of patriotic and ecological upbringing and development of healthy life habits among children and youth.
2. Formation of ecological culture of people by means of common work of pupils, teachers, parents, local residents aimed at revitalization of the town territory.
3. Creation of conditions for formation among children and adults the culture of health and safety as the road users.
4. Development of conscious and responsible attitude to personal and social traffic security among children and youth.
- Involving children in the search for mechanisms to solve local problems through the development and implementation of social projects.
6. Creation of safe bicycle and pedestrian space.
Implementation directions of the project
1. Conduct of sociological research on the question of creation of a bicycle park on the territory of the old town park.
2. Dissemination of information about the need of build of bicycle and pedestrian paths, bicycle parkings, places for the study of the traffic rules and training of the bicycle driving skills. Implementing the works on uprooting the old trees, cutting and replanting the park.
3. Active participation in organization and implementation of the practical activities for realization the project «Hlusk bicycle park».

Expected results:
1. The bicycle park will be established in the beginning of August, 2022. It’s supposed to be highly popular in demand at once, since many schoolchildren come to school on bicycles even in the rainy weather.
- Installment of the bicycle park will help to rearrange the location of bicycles and increase the number of schoolchildren and school workers, coming to school on the bicycles.
- Town park will become a recreation place for cyclists, including not only children and youth, but also other residents of the town.
4. Creation of the area for figure cycling on the territory of the bicycle park will foster the interest of the pupils to the “Young traffic inspectors” movement.
5. Creation of an interactive 3D town on the territory of the park (children-road-movement) for the study of the traffic rules.
- Creation of conditions for formation among children and adults the culture of health and safety as the road users.
7. Knowledge of the traffic rules and acquired cycling skills both in town and on the country, roads will create a possibility for organization of bicycle trips, development of bicycle tourism and study of local history and culture.
